Favorite Part About Being a Peer Mentor:
I love being able to work with first-year students to serve as a resource to help them acclimate to college and campus life in their first semester. I know I was overwhelmed when I first started college, so I enjoy being able to help students find their niche on campus.
Advice for First-Year Students:
Take full advantage of the opportunities you have for engagement outside the classroom. Go to lectures or events on campus, join an alternative break trip, get involved with your residence hall, join a student organization, or take a class with a service learning component. There are so many options for continuing learning and exploring your passions while in college, and your first year is a perfect time for trying new things and figuring out what are your interests. There's more than just class and hanging out in your dorm, and so much of it is just a 5 minute walk away from your room.
